Full Story

At the Academy of Art University for a BFA in Concept Art. Digital are is not my strong suit. I'm more skilled in traditional art. My choice is with acrylic paints, however I tend to dabble in just about anything really. I've been into art ever since elementary school where my teachers told me to write more rather than just draw in the journals....needless to say I didn't quite listen :D My first real art class was in middle school learning about the different mediums, cardboard sculpture, and fundamentals in every art class. I only took one class in Highschool, but learned quite a bit. Fast forward to College, I was studying to become a business major with art classes as a way to break up the hard boring classes, however I found a passion in art and decided to go for it as my major. I've attended Clovis Community, Fresno City, Fresno State, but they all felt like the same class over and over. I loved them though, the repetition and pushing my skill further, but it lacked a fulfillment for me. What was the end result? What can I do with this BA degree in art? I did some research and found the Academy, where all the classes are art classes, not random general ED classes, I really loved this idea. this point its about 2016ish. Now I did have a bit of a burnout with school in general at the time of applying, so I lasted about 3 semesters then failed a main building block class, which to be honest sorta got to me. At this point 2018 I turned my focus to a second job and work was the top priority now, managed to move out to my first apartment, but couldn't enjoy it due to working so much. There was a lot of life experiences from this point, which would be about 7 year stretch. Definitely a rollercoaster, some real bad experiences. So.... that leads to now, 2024. I Deemed this, the Year of Change! I Quit my job at amazon 6 months prior, I did still work a second job at Lowes, but both places had issues with upper management, so I quit that job, turning my focus to my art and I am determined to get my name and work out there for others to see. My art, I'm still figuring out what the meaning is, what the message is. I'm hoping to inspire others, I seem to resonate with the quote from Henri Matisse "Creativity takes courage" I think honestly as long as people create work that brings them joy, that's enough. It doesn't always rely on skill, for years I always thought it was all about skill, and I wanted to be the best at whatever I do, in any of my classes I wanted to be the best of the best, that was my goal. While I do strive to be one of the best, I learned in class, that it doesn't have to be that way, there was a fellow student whose work was more towards nonrepresentational, but he always had a story behind the whole piece, it was a narrative, and I loved his work. I can't remember his name at the moment, but I look forward to seeing his work again one day and hearing the story he has to tell with is. To conclude this, just have fun and create art for yourself. make something for the heck of it, skill comes with practice and determination, but creativity comes from you and your upbringing, your experiences, your life.
